Currently I have a Savage 110E in 30-06. Looking to upgrade this rifle to synthetic stock, heavy barrel in 308 or may keep the 06 if I can get a heavy barrel. Any help in finding these items would be helpful. Thanks

Call Jim Briggs at Northlander, he advertises here. He will have a barrel but don't now about a stock. Why not a laminate, just as sturdy andunflexable as well as beter looking. Keep the 06 for that long action. Converting to a short action cartridge in a long action may cause feeding problems. Check any of the stock sellers here like Stocky's and Boyds.

I have run the 308 in a Long action stagger feed, works like a champ, just remember to push the rounds to the back of the mag when loading, and your good to go.

I gotta agree with ellobo on the the laminate, just as tough and less flex.

I'm working on almost the exact same build my question tho is cant we just order a new mag box form midway in a .308 to fix this problem? or will feeding always be an issue?
Mine is a straight 110, staggered feed, blind mag

The issue is that the cut-out in the long action is longer than the one for the short action so the 308 SF mag won't fit in the long action. Even when all Savages were long action and used short magazines for the 308 class rounds they too had a smaller cut-out in the bottom of the action.

The only idea that comes to mind for your issue would be to get a 308 Centerfeeed magazine and bed it into the magazine well in your stock for your long action. I have not done this personally, but I have heard others here talk about doing it with great success.

Good luck.

Thx boots! Kinda had the same thought that when I bed the rife into the new Boyd stock to fill the void, after replacing the mag of course. Would love to hear from someone who has done this and has some pointers for us!

Would also like to some pics of the 30.06 -.308 conversion
Thx guys!!!

I am using a 308 in a 116 long action. No problems here. If you are looking for a prefit barrel I would look at brux or mcgowen.

I pretty much epoxied the mag well into a single follower.

Yes. It's a steel plate cut to the size of the mag well and epoxied in. Feeds with no problem.
