I am going to rebuild one into a 223 long range shooting 75 grain and up bullets, I have 2 110's a 06 from 1970 and a "J" frame model in 243, both left handed, leaning toward using the 06 action as I hate to lose the 243, don't need the 06 any more, with all the parts needed, I haven't found or seen a magazine box sized for the 223 based on the long action, is there one out there the group would suggest,

Doing a .223 on a long action is more trouble than its worth. magazine box for an old long action may not be available and bolt mods are a PITA. Better to go to a .22-250 and put a shim in the magazine rear to take up the excess space. Less hassle and a better cartridge for varmints.

I agree, go 22-250 or trade the long action for a short action and then go 223. Also i wouldn't use the J series (even though you said you weren't going to) to build, stocks options are minimal due to the odd action screw spacing.

Thanks guys, the more I look at it, I'm following your thoughts, The "J" action has been good to me in 243 had a hard enough time finding a left handed stock for it as it was

Will the new 223 based actions give me room to run handloads over lenght with the heavies?

Get a standard short action, 308 based, and change the bolt head to a 223.
You will have to tweak the magazine feed or use a single shot follower though.
I am gonna try that with a 6x45 striker, when I can get the rest of my stuff done
