I'd love to get some spotting scope recommendations from you guys. I want to look at spotting scopes in the $300-$400 range. I have been looking at Nikon, Redfield and Kowa so far.

Any recommendations?

I just got a vortex nomad. 20-60X, it gets a little dark even in bright sunshine at hi mag. Pretty clear glass, I have picked out 223 bullet holes at 400yds on a white background.

I'm giving serious consideration to the Leupold SX1 Ventana 20-6-X80 Spotting scope kit that has the tripod and case with it for $500 on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leupold-SX-1-Ventana-Spotting-Scope-Kit-20-60x80-Angled-/321072975904?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ac170d020 Anyone have this unit or know someone that does that can give some feedback?

I just ordered a vortex nomad 20-60x60. It was $260 and you still need a tripod. I wanted to wait for the 80mm objective but between the wait and extra money I'll give this one a shot. I have a weakness for high dollar glass but this will have to work until I can get the vortex hd scope.

A buddy of mine who shoots highpower has a Konus spotting scope that is quite good for the money . I think you can still get them in that price range.

You can see it in my avatar on my right.

In the 300 dollar range you should be able to find a used Kowa.
