View Full Version : Little help re: Shilen barrel

Can anyone tell me if Shilen pre-fit Savage large shank barrels come with a shoulder on them? The McGowen I've got for it does not but the Shilen I just got (new) has one. The barrel nut will go over it slightly until the threads contact the shoulder. Additionally, my action will only thread on for 2-3 turns before it stops. I've got a good barrel vise but no action wrench but I never needed an action wrench to screw on the McGowen barrel.

Anybody have any ideas as to what my problem might be?

Thanks!

Rich

If your barrel nut will screw on the barrel I would think you threads are ok. My small shank Shilens have not step (I assume that is what you mean by shoulder) while my large shank Shilen do have the step down.

Can you post a pic?

I responded to you PM. Definitely looks like a large shank barrel. Are you 100% that the action is a large shank? Measure the thread diameter of your old barrel you replaced.

PM'ed you back. It's a LRPV action so I'm certain it's a large shank.

Got it figured out Tim, all is good! Gonna go shoot it in about an hour.

Thanks again for your help!
