I'm stoked on coming across the SS forum. Just like to introduce myself from Idaho as I'm a young big game enthusiast.

I ordered my first savage today (114 American Classic in Stainless) in 7mm. It was time to upgrade from my Ruger 25-06 for something with a little more fire power. This will be the first rifle that I have purchased brand new as my first one was a hand me down from my step dad. I love the performance of synthetic but I am too partial to wood/stainless combos because of the look and feel. If it shoots half as good as my .257, I will be thrilled.

Only one week till it gets here... Thanks for the hopefully warm welcome. Any input/reviews/questions on my purchase?! I'm new to the art of packing a savage. How do I embed pictures on here without providing a URL? I want to upload from my computer so you don't have to go to another link.

Welcome! Have an American Classic in 7mm Magnum that I switch to a 6.5x55 from time-to-time. Love the walnut stock and the way it shoots. I shoot 120 Nosler Ballistic Tips and 140 Berger Hunting/VLD almost exclusively. Both bullets are deadly accurate and very fast! The 120 is fantastic on long shots at speed goats and the 140 Berger is more than enough bullet for elk or deer. Put one of these on your Savage and you will not regret it. http://www.harrellsprec.com/muzzle_breaks.html Great brakes and a great price.

You have to use a URL here. I use flickr.com...easy to use.

You need to upload your photos to a host site like the aforementioned Flickr or maybe Photobucket.

This link should help...

Think I got it! I do have a few questions in general.
I'm looking to shoot 150 Partitions or B-Tips or 160 Accubonds. The goal is to achieve 1500 ft/lbs at 600 yards but I will settle on whatever shoots best. Any tips/experiences/suggestions with these loads for elk? I used 110 AccuBonds last year and it put the hammer down on my bull at 260 yards so I'm excited about that bullet. I have not looked into Berger's yet, nor do I have much experience with them.

I'm researching the 140 VLD's a lot. There is a few loads I'm going to try first with them. How long is your barrel? And that seems awfully cheap for a break.

Own 3 Savage hunting rifles ......a 116 Weather Warrior in 30-06 Sprng.......a model 11 in 308 Win........& last & certainly not least a hard kicking Alaskan Brush Hunter in 375 Ruger.
All have the Accutrigger & Accustock except the Alaskan which doesn't have an Accustock though it is plenty accurate. I check the 375s groups right after I pick myself off the ground:biggrin-new:. The rifles are all topped by Leupold 3-9x40mm "Rifleman" scopes.
