Saw a well used Savage 110 on a used gun rack. Marked 110H, I'm pretty sure it said Savage and not Stevens. Seemed to be a 70's-80's rifle with a Walnut stock & cheek-piece I think. Anyone ever heard of a Savage 110H?

I'm curious too as today I was in a gun shop asking about project receivers and the guy had a 110H with 243 barrel in pretty nice condition for $50. I'm probably going to buy it but if it's one of the intermediate length actions which are going to be hard to find a stock for then I don't want it. It's minus the bolt as well but for $50 and say sell the barrel for $20 I then have a 110H action for $30. That's a pretty darn hard deal to pass up on!

If it turns out being a J frame, let me know, I'll buy it from you!

Measure the action screws, should be the most sure way to tell!

Do you know what the distance between the J series action screws are versus the other 110 series?

The J series screws are 4.522" apart.

The short actions have two different spacings shorter than that and the long action is about 4.75" or so. The J series is the only one near 4.5 inches.

Thanks for the info! I'll check it out in the next couple of weeks. The guy's shop is only open 3 days a week and he had to dig it out of the back so I can't see it being sold in the 6 working days or so til I make it back.

Its my understanding that the leters like "H" and "J" simply denote which level of engineering changes are incorporated in that rifle. A 110 J can be a long or short action. the different mounting bolt spacing denotes what it is, a short cartridge action due to the bolt spacer being longer to keep from over retracting thes bolt as if it was made for a long action cartridge like a 30-06. Hope I explained that right, if not someone I am sure will jump in with the correct information.
