I have always wanted to do a prairie dog/coyote/etc hunt out west but have no idea how to go about it nor want to pay high dollar for a guided hunt for just one or two shooters. Having said that, would anyone on Savageshooters who has land or contacts for this sort of thing be willing to do hunt for a number of our members? I'm not looking to do it for free but I know outtings are normally cheaper in groups.

Anybody interested in putting this together?

I'm going but I don't have the dates. My scheduled date was interrupted when my daughter announced she was pregnant and due on that day. I can't go until she delivers and is home a week or so. You may want to take another offer that would give more notice.

I was just gonna stop at a coffee shop and see if I could get permission from some ranchers. Kevin Rayhill said he may be able to hook me up with some ranchers in the Buffalo Gap area though. I like that area as it's the only area I've ever hunted.

If not there's public lands near Ft. Pierre that have good supplies early in the season.

I'm thinking 2014 would be better for most of us.

I have only been once before, but would love to go again. I also have lots of info on the Fort Pierre Grasslands in SD. Free camping, $35 for a year long varmint license and $35 for a three day fishing license. We had a fantastic time.
Maybe I'll post some pics of the trip.

And, I'll have a new 223 AI all tuned up by then!!

This would be fun just to get to know some of the other members. It is tough finding places to go. I grew up around prairie digg Towns and western predators, but its getting hard to find good dog Towns that haven't been hit by the plague, or poisoned. May need to look into this a little harder though.

I get back to the states in summer 2014, so depending on the timeframe the trip is planned, I'd love to go as well.

I will also be following this. I go once a year but would love to make it twice. But what if my main prairie dog gun is a ........Remington....my back up is a Savage...

Just realized I've been a member for almost a year and half. Wish I could contribute more but I don't get here often. My teenage son and I have been talking about a SD PD trip for a couple of years; we just have NO idea where to go or who to talk to. I've been saving and this year might be it. We're coming from Michigan so the travel costly, but have been planning and saving and are looking for any advice. I'll keep an eye on this post and see what comes up.

I'm a member of a few other sites but haven't seen any posts about PD hunting. Been hunting for several years and decided the 'dogs' are the next challenge.

Anyone have suggestions, please feel free to PM me.

I'd be down for a PD hunt, I could find a couple people that would go as well to help with a group rate

I'd also be interested. Getting married in July so don't know if I could pull it off this year or not. I went out to Sheridan, Wyoming back in '07 and had a great time. Been itching to do it again but funds and time have been tight till now.
