I got one of those single shot followers for my rifle and it doesn't seem to work very well..I looked at the picture of it to be sure if it was in correctly and it looks to be..This is in a savage action mod 10 .The shells hang up and will not chamber. Now if I push the back down just a hair it works great..

What can I do to make it work every time without the hang up issue..it is the one that looks like a little aluminum block..
Thanks for any advice you have to offer...Oh the caliber is 223 if that makes any difference....John:argue:

Is it a ScoreHi? Taper goes towards the chamber.

I have several of them and never had an issue.

the shorter case of the 223 can sometimes cause the cartridge to tip back down and the bullet tip hits the barrel instead of chambering, since there are no feed lips on the SS follower to help hold the rear of the cartridge down.

Alot of it depends on the bullets you use as well. Short, blunt tipped bullets will be worse than ballistic tips or long, match bullets.

I use either bergers or sierra match bullets....I just read that this will not work with center feed...Seems like it would..i wonder if there is some way to modify it to work?

Well, I assumed you had a staggerfeed since it is a staggerfeed follower. How were you installing it into the centerfeed system? Maybe post some pics for us to see.

Best bet is to call SSS and order the correct one for your rifle, or put a want ad in the classifieds for one.

Thread moved to Savage 110-based Centerfire Rifles.

The Hi-Score single shot follower is for Savage SF magazines and does not work in CF magazines worth a hoot. Go online to SSS, print off the order form and mail in an order for the SSS SA CF Single Shot Loading Ramp. It fits the Savage action like a glove and will solve all your feeding problem with any bullet design. You also don't need the magazine box and follower anymore. I always mail in my orders using the SSS order form, since it works every time and I don't get frustrated trying to contact SSS by phone or email. Most mail ordered SSS exclusive parts for Savage actions were recieved in less than 2-weeks if they were in-stock and Lisa was not waiting on Fred or their contractor to machine a batch.

The SSS CF Single Shot Loading Ramp will also work in the older Savage SF actions. You just need to remove some metal from the rear of the ramp. If the rear of the ramp won't stay in place with a friction fit, use a small drop of epoxy to hold in place.

Heck it fits right in easy, just doesn't line up right for some reason other than it isn't designed for this action. But with a little bit of studing it I think I can make it work for me....John

Studing can be good thing but you might try studying this one. :peace:

Have you tried dropping the round in and pushing it by hand just enough so the bullet tip is on the feeding ramps? I have one for my 788 and that's what I have to do...

I would dremel off the lip just before the actions ramp and rely on the factory feedramp to do the original job it was intended to do. I think you have the wrong one, mine doesnt look like yours.
