Are axis bolt heads interchangeable with regular Savage 110-series bolt heads? I recently watched a 'how to' video on You Tube, and they sure look the same to me.

Question is, does the Axis use the long or short action 110 bolt heads? LOL

My .223 Axis has what I believe is the standard short action .223 bolt head. It does not have the extension wing (I can't remember the official nomenclature) that is used in a Savage long action to keep the bolt from being drawn too far to the rear.

Axis bolt heads are short action bolt heads. The front baffle does not have the guide fin, but if you look closer you will find a long side and a short side. The short side to the right for long cartridges, opposite for short.

Are all axis actions short action bolt heads?
