hello everyone,
I purchased a model 111 in 270 win from a member of my gun club. I wanted to replace the two piece weaver mount with a one piece so I can position the scope further back. Putting the new mount on I realized the front screw in the receiver is stripped. I was wondering if anyone knows the screw size so I can figure out what size tap and screw to buy. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for that info. Thinking how my luck runs I may just let a smith do it.

All my savages have 6-48 screws except the ones I opened up to 8-40. I will bet those are 6-48 screws.

Hey Werewolf, did you open them up because the were damaged, or is there an advantage for the larger screws.

The larger screws don't break quite as easily but it does require opening up the screw hole in the base.

Yea I did that for a magnum build to have a stronger mount for the scope. I had the action trued and the smith did the holes and bases at the same time. The other one I had done to cure a slight misalignment of the original mounting holes.
