Hey Guys,

I got this gun passed down to me from my gramps. I know the gun is old but my wish is to get it all set up and kill a deer with it cause it was one of his rifles and he was a big time deer hunter.

I have a few questions and wanted to see if I could get any help here. First it only has one magazine. Any ideas on finding one of these, I would like to have two for it. I have looked all over the net in the places I thought there might be on and no luck.

Second and the main thing I am looking to do is get a scope mounted on it. I have no idea where to start on the mounting bracket and want to do this all myself and not take it to a gun smith. I have a leupold scope that I was hoping I could use once I figure out what mounting brackets I need.

Does anyone have any idea what or where I could find the right mounting brackets for this rifle.

thanks so much,

Froggin.

I'm guessing your drilling and tapping it yourself? Two #11 Weaver mounts will work on the model 40.

Also, Triple K makes a repro magazine for your model and caliber.

These are very accurate guns. I bought one at an auction - the model 45 with a receiver sight. I had a gunsmith install a new recoil pad. Also drilled and tapped a Weaver side mount. I have a Weaver K4 for it zeroed w/150 gr ammo. I have a 2.5x BSA zeroed for 180 gr ammo. Magazines are scarce. (And expensive!)

Froggin,
Did you ever find a magizine for it. I have the exact gun from my grandpa and I was able to find a mag years ago. I've thought about getting another as well.
I had a local guy put a two-piece base with a scope that caught my fancy at the time.
Let us know an update.
