Have a 338 heavy hitter that pretty much lines up with a mildot scope out to about 700 yards but I also use it for swamping.

I have an 800 yard field I hunt in (hogs and I will shoot at them at any range) but I also swamp in that same area so
I might be down in the swamps around creeks etc with CC shots 10-25 yards then pop out into several fields that could range out to 300-800 yards.

I really like this particular rifle setup and for years have struggled on exactly how to set it up for Close Quarters plus long distance.

Tried a few different scopes, similar to the burris Six-x 2-12x and did not really care for them. Gave up and now I have a Leupold 2-7x
scope on it, but 7X is too low power for me. 2X is about as high mag on the low end as I want to go for any animal that can charge.

I think my only option for a rifle is a Burris pepr setup or tactical rings with a picatinny top, long scope 4-12x or 18x etc with something like a Burris fast fire mounted on top
for quick shots. Never tried it and just thinking it seems like it would be a bit fiddly.

Alternately I could just carry a Rifle with say a 4-12X (already have one) scope and carry a side arm with a red dot scope for CC although I am not the best shot with a pistol with iron sights.

I have a XD-45 5" Tactical that now is set up to handle 45 super and I am considering buying a 460 rowland kit for it one day.

Pistol setup would probably be a 45 super for now or a 460 Rowland later (close to a 44mag) either running 265 grain WFNGC bullets.
Carver mount about $150
Burris fast fire about $$250

I usually carry a pistol anyway but just wondering mostly about opinions on a rifle setup.

Buy a big bore revolver with a 6 or 8" barrel and get a cross-chest bandolier-type holder for it. Many of the bandolier holsters I've seen can/will accommodate a scope or reflex site.

At 25 yards just point and shoot. Forget about the scope. Sight down the barrel and let them hogs have it.

Yes I have been thinking about a 44 mag or 454 casull.

Used to have a 460V and the **** think was so heavy, It would literally pull my pants down with a belt carry.
Didnt really care for a shoulder holster either while packing a rifle. Alone it was okay though.
Great pistol though.

Ended up selling it and getting a 44 mag lightweight with a 4" bbl. Kept it for about 3 years
and it was nice for a backup. Very light but a handfull.

That particular 44 mag pistol, no scope setups were sold for it, so I decided to switch over to
a EEA 10mm Witness for some reason. If I remember right there was a scope mount for it.

The slide cracked running hot loads and they replaced it and out the door it went.
The witness ships with a small profile slide, but when replaced they use a heavy duty slide.
Its common for them to crack.

Still wanting a semi auto I ended up with the XD-45 5" TAC.

Main reason is it has a safety and I knew it could handle 45 Super loads
and had read that Johnny Rowland was working on a 460 kit for one.

They finally finished the kit and they cost about $300 so not that bad.
A 460 rowland will push a 230 gr bullet at about 1350fps / 931 ft. lbs which is a handfull
but no worse than a lightweight 44 mag.

Right now I am running 45 super with 240 gr magnum XTP bullets at about 1075 PFS with 600 FPE
Only for hunting.

LOL - Thanks.

Maybe this is what I need on the front with a 12" barreled 45 LC with a scabbard on the back holding an over/double under 7mm-08 over double barrel 12 ga under with an 8-25X scope and a burris fast fire. Needs one more row of bullet holders on the other shoulder for 7mm-08.

I was possibly thinking about setting it up like this.

I'm running one like that but off the top of my scope. I'm working on a side mount but I have had no time to get behind the mill and make something. I'm thinking about something that will attach to my scope base under my scope and have the red dot as close to the scope as possible.

Milling one would be a good thing. Depends on how big the turrets are too.
MAybe tight against the scope up top but at a 45.
