I have been shooting different bullet weights from 50 grain to 55 grain. Powder ranges from 34 to 38 grains of H-380 to 34 to 40 grain of IMR 4064.The groupings are so scattered with the different loads/bullet combinations. I did find a pet load for the 22-250 that being 36 grain of IMR 4064 with a 50 grain V-max 20 thousandths off the lands. Is the 1-12 twist better with say 65 t0 70 grain bullets? I am just wondering since the lighter grain bullets scatter so bad.

The 12FVSS 22-250 was my first Savage

Mine loved 50g Noslers, 50g Barnes VLC's (no longer made), 55g Sierra Blitzkings, Sierra 60g HP's and Sierra 52g Match Kings.

My powders of choice were Varget, IMR 3031 and H 4895

For a tack driving target load, try the 52g SMK, H 4895 and CCI BR-2 primers....should be a near max load

Are you sure the scope, rings, bases and action screws are all tight?

No the 12 twist is ideal for the lighter bullets. Are you settled in on one primer and powder combo, suppose you have tried a couple proven loads from other people.

It really just depends on which load your rifle likes. My 12 twist likes 35.5 grains of Varget, a 215M primer and a 50 grain Nosler BT seated about .010" off the lands.

With a 12 twist, I would be more inclined to try 40 and 45 grain bullets than the heavier ones.

Load should be about the same for a 55gr V-Max?

was really disappointed in h380 in my LRPV 1-12. i tried 46gr, 50gr, 52gr , 55 gr...it shot the 52gr amax under .5" @ 100m...then i tried ww748..50gr vmax..win brass & wwlr primer ..and started to shoot 5 shot bug holes @ 100m..h380 is way temp sensitive...h4895 w/ a 52gr amax also shot on a par w/ the 50gr vmax load

my 1:12 loves 37.5 imr4350 and 55gr nosler ballistic tips! One hole groups @100yds and 1inch @ 300.

My 12FV 22-250 1-12 twist loves 55gr Sierra Spitzers with about 35grs of Reloder 15 or about 34.5 grs of Varget. Both with Federal LR Primers. Both loads have given me 1.0 inch groups at 300 meters. It does almost as well with the same loads under a 55gr V-Max. I tried some experiments with loads of Varget under 40gr V-max Moly coated and consistantly punched 1 hole groups at 100 meters but just slightly bigger groups than the 55gr spitzers at 300 meters.

I know this is a no brainer, but I would check all of your optics. My friend was sighting in a 10FP in 308 few weeks ago, and called me asking me why the loads i had helped him make worked great in my 12fv but wandered all over in his 10fp. After a trip to his house I discovered that his base screws and even his rings had loosened just enough to cause problems. I tightened them up and we made a 1 hole group at 100yds.

Marking this one for some load ideas. Definitely going to try the Varget with a SBK 52gr.

Berger 52gr match, 35.5grns RL15, CCI primer, Federal brass. = <.250 4 & 5 shot groups

This gun also shoots all Factory Federal loads with NBT's, 55, 70's are perfect

I load for 3 savage 22-250's. They all shoot 40 gr. v-max over 40 gr. of H380 really well. Cases are full when new brass is used. This is the load we use for shooting pdogs and it does bad things to them out to 300yd +. The 380 is temp sensitive, but I'v never had trouble with it as long as you dont just leave you loads sitting in the sun for hrs on end. Good Luck, Bill
