They marked the Stevens 200s down at our local SW to $279, and I am tempted to try a build on the short action -- either .243 with 1:7 barrel or perhaps one of the 6.5s -- a .260, Creedmoor or Lapua. Is it worth doing on an action milled out for the magazine though? Are the actions stiff enough to get down in the .2s consistently with good loads?

The actions are fine for what you want to do.

From what I've seen the action has little to do with the accuracy of the rifle. The barrel is what you want to spend some money on. If your asking about whether having a magazine on a rifle makes a difference in accuracy, I havent seen any effect and most of the members that I've talked to haven't noticed an effect either.

Another thing worth looking into is upgrading the trigger. The stock trigger that comes with the Stevens is horrible. A SSS Competition trigger is one of the best triggers I've put my finger on. As far as getting to a .2 group, that's also going to depend on your skill as well. Hope this has answered your question somewhat.

I was thinking about building an AR in the 6.5 creedmoor.

If you have the ability to do so, go with the 6.5 creedmoor.

Many shooters are praising the caliber in long distance shooting.
