Is there a certain torque spec on the barrel nut?

Yes, a grunt to a grunt and a quarter. :p

Seriously I don't torque them. If I had to take a WAG I'd say I hand tighten them to maybe 30-50 lbs, I really don't know. I'm not sure I tighten them enough though, none have came yet loose to find out!

Ok then. I'll give it a grunt and fart and all should be well. Thanks man!

A grunt and fart is OK, but if you grunt, fart and dot your BVD's you over tightened it.

I don't use a torque wrench on anything on my rifles.

Never have had a problem yet.

I just tighten em until I can't tighten anymore and pull a muscle... guess I'm tightening it too much.

You really can't overtighten it if you are just going by hand, Savage uses a 1000lbs gorilla to tighten their barrel nuts

If your action is trued, you have a ground lug and a trued barrel nut, 30-40 ft/lbs. Otherwise as tight as you can get it without distorting something is good. That is the reason behind the factory rifles being so tight, the mating surfaces are no bueno por Caca.

That makes pretty good sence I guess. Thanks!
