Any sources for a blued recoil lug to replace the Savage factory one? Can only find Stainless Steel.

I added a stainless lug and trigger guard on my blue action and barrel of my 35 Whelen build. Added a bit of class to an otherwise mundane rifle.

Guess it wouldn't hurt to put the stainless one on and see what it looks like.....no fun to build a rifle if you can't make it look as good as it shoots...

Anyone ever painted one? Duracoat maybe?

I have a couple of blued ones laying around. they are take offs but you are welcome if you want one....

I will have a take off when I take apart the rifle, I do appriciate the offer though. I was hoping to find a source for a blued one that was thicker and surface ground.

Are the Savage replacements at Midway any better than take offs? For $8 I would think not.....

No I wouldnt think that they are anything other than replacement factory parts from Savage. Duracoating a stainless shouldnt be hard at all. Just make sure that you degrease it first....

Another Whelen fan!!! We are getting fewer and fewer. I have one that I had built on an Interarms MkX action many years ago. E.R. Shaw barrel, Boyd's stock, I still love that gun!

I have blanchard ground a few stock ones. They are about 15 to 20 thousandths thiner than factory. Send me yours and I will take care of you.

goinssr, you and I know what potential the old .35 has. It will address the the need for an all around, take anything on this continent problem. It can be loaded to very good velocity with heavy bullets. I load 200, 225 and 250 gr. 250 gr. at 2600 FPS is nothing to sneeze at and does not require the use of hugh loads of powder in tht 30-06 case. Its recoil is more like a 12 ga, a push, not a violent bruiser. It is not fussy to load for and is accurate with with many powders. My .35 was my first Savage build and I did it because I could get a .35 without spending an arm and a leg. Same for my 7x57.
