Any aftermarket small shank barrel will fit the Axis action. You may have to open up the barrel channel to free float the barrel.

hey thanks therm, do you know of anyone that has slip on muzzle brakes for the standard XP barrel?I don't know if such a thing exists--I believe your muzzle needs to have a threaded insert--EABCO specializes in this kind of stuff so you might want to call them.

CAShooter: Yes, you can use a heavy barrel made by Savage made for another Savage rifle, as long as it is a small shank barrel.

I have put on 3 of these brakes, from Brownells. They wont go on a very big barrel, have the tech line give you the phone# of the guy who makes/patented this brake and he can tell you what you need to know. They have 100 clicks as a tuner, I split the middle with 50 and they have shot great on every caliber I have put them on, most have been sporter or heavy sporter barrels, on a varmint barrel you would have to turn it down some up front. A 6.5x55 swede custom I built, with a max load 120gr. bullet, recoils like a .223.
