I ordered this barrel from the Gunshack group buy back in march of 2012. It is a magnum contour and was in 24" length. The guys at Shaw took their sweet time and I missed deer season with it, but I have it now and have been working loads for the last week or so. The first thing I did was have it cut to 20" and a recessed crown cut in it. The bore is really off center in the end of the barrel, which concerned me, but my gunsmith and several fellow members on here said it should not hurt anything. I've tried a few different bullets, and several powders, and last trip hit what looked like a good load for the 140 and 123 Amax both with RL17. Today I tweeked the seating depths on the 123's and also shot a good group with the 140's (I only had 3 loaded w/ the 140's and will work them more next weekend). This barrel is looking very good so far, and with only 86 rounds through it, I think it will get a little better. I expect a little more tweaking to the 140 Amax load will make it a 1 holer as well...I actually called to my father in law that I pulled the shot that broke the group to the left. It probably would have also been in the .1's or .2's if I had held better. It was raining like crazy at the range, and the target got soaked, which is why they look so ragged and crappy. Both of these loads are at the edge of max, and I'm looking forward to stretching them out a bit to see how they do a little farther than 100yds. So here's a pic of the rifle in a hogue DBM stock. I've bedded the stock and stiffened the forend with carbon arrows and bedding compound. This stock will be replaced with a nice classic style walnut stock with ebony tip for deer season next year. I love wood stocks! The scope is a cheapo bushnell banner I use for a loaner. And the trigger spring was replaced with one from the target models. Not bad for a $150 barrel IMO.

Good shooting! Nice looking rifle.
I also purchased a 6.5 CM barrel in the group buy.I also bought a 7mm-08,both are varmint contour. The 6.5 CM looks like it's going to be a great shooting barrel,it really likes to shoot Berger 130 & 140gr bullets. I blew a great 1 hole group on the 5th shot the other day.

Very nice. I have a Shaw 260 but have not been able to proof it like that yet.

I also have a .243 varmint contour Shaw that I bought last year in the Gunshack group buy. It also shoots very well and really likes Bergers. I haven't tried them in the Creedmoor yet, and honestly probably may not since it shoots the Amaxes so well. I want to get it to shoot the 120 grain Barnes TTSX bullets for deer season, but so far my testing has not proven very good with them. I loaded up some more of the 123 and 140 Amax last night to see how repeatable these results are.

Impressive. Curious how fast the 140 chrono's.

I'm gonna guess around 2650 to 2700 or so, but have not chronoed any. The hornady data shows 2750 with the 42.0 load, so I'm guessing I will lose 50 to 100fps with the 20" barrel. The 123grain load data shows 2950 with 44.3, so I'm probably around 2800, maybe a little better with 44.0 grains. I'm completely pressure sign free on both of these loads, and could probably push each up a bit, but when I hit a good accurate load at or really close to published max, I usually stop there. Also, it's still cool here, and I don't want any problems when the weather warms up....I've experienced some issues with RL17 when trying to work loads in .243 this past year and started blowing primers. I abandoned it for the .243 and stuck with H4350.

RL17 will probably give you 100fps more velocity compared to the same charge weight of H4350...at least that's been my observation with 123s and 140s in my 260.

I also have an ER Shaw in 7mm SAUM and it shoots very respectable 1/2 - 1/3 MOA groups out to 600. My ER Shaw barrels are about 10x better then my Montana Rifleman barrel, which will shoot a MOA group on a good day.

I have bought 3 Shaw barrels in 6.5x55 6.5 RM & 243 win
all of them have been very accurate shooters.
