WOW! I went from 'no idea' to 'bang' in about 2 weeks. Whoever put the thread up about Numrich arms barrels, I thank you!!

I ordered the prechambered barrel ($98 shipped). Got it today. (Less than 2 weeks from order to arrival at my door.) Its a 26" varmit weight SS small shank barrel. I had been amassing reloading 'stuff' since the order. Barrel showed up, spun it on a 110 action, loaded up some 180SMK's with retumbo and CCI LR Mag primers and shot 5 rounds with different loads to see where I got pressure signs.

First off, the 300RUM shook my world. (A brake is in order.) (If I can find a way to put two brakes on there, I will!) I went slightly over Sierra's hottest load with the 180's and didnt see any pressure signs. My plans are to put a 15round OCW workup together, and shoot it. Then I will clean the snot out of this thing. Thats where the brake threading thing will pay for itself. Once thats done I am going to get this thing melonited or nitrided (whatever the en vogue term is).

Anyway, thats all I got. Did I mention the 300RUM shook me hard?

Exactly why I would never own one.

I've always enjoyed shooting the "big kickers", and I still own quite a few.
Having said that, I'm learning to have a ball with .223, .22-250, and lately the .243 Win. Thank God for Savage barrels!

The 300 rum is a sweet cartage.
Mine weighs in at 20 pounds with a mcGown 30" bull barrel on it. Love that gun

I just spoke to a guy that is going to machine some threads on it for a brake. YEAH ME!!

I feel your pain, a few years ago I had a Weatherby Mark V Accumark in 30-378 Weatherby mag. They come with a removable brake, with the brake on it was about the same as a 308 or even a little less but boy was it loud. Without the brake it was a sight watching someone shoot it. It would rock your world.

The best muzzle break is actually the Weatherby brake. You can buy it from them seperate.

The Weatherby is a good brake but the new style slab brakes reduce recoil a little better without blowing dirt all over ya. If you shoot prone in the desert you learn REAL quick :stung:

Slab was not a good term. Have used a lot of different brakes over the years and my red-neck take on brakes is this.

What I called the slab brake.
Like the painkiller,Mussel and lesser extent the Holland(pictured sitting on top of a true slab brake)

The Vias style, Much like the major mfgs

The tank style like the JPs

And the Magnaporting wich may help with muzzle flip but does little for recoil.

Just checked out the Weatherby brakes on their web site. They are identical to Brownell's in-house Shrewd brakes.

I shoot a 300wby with 80grains of powder behind a 180grains TSX. The weatherby case is designed after the 300 H&H. After 3 shots I decided to get a brake. I didn't go with a side brake because I didn't want to take away from the guns beautiful MarkV wood stock look.

My rifle has a 26" barrel and with the brake it's about 28" overall. The gun still looks fantastic and shoots like a 270, maybe a little less.

I'm no marksman, but I can shoot a 3 shot group at 200 yards measuring less than .30" center to center.

My brake was custom made by my smith.

Get a brake that fits your shooting style. I know I'm not going to kill anything past 500 and I can do that just fine without going prone.

SeanLike I said, the Boom Of Doom! I'm thinking whether I want to thread my barrel or not.
