I see lots written about all the other bullets, what wrong with Speers?

I have 3 different brands of 190 gr match bullets here and got to checking

them out.I have shot the Hornady's and the Sierra's but not tried the

Speers bullets..I got to looking at them and did some measureing.

The Hornday were the shortest of the 3..The Speers were 2nd and then

the Sierra's....Of the 3 the Sierra's were the most consistent length..

The Speers were 2nd in consistency.with the Hornady having a huge difference

in length...Take time I go to the range I will be trying those Speer 190's

just to see how they shoot.....I posted this just to let you know my finding's

and am courious as to how many are using the Speer bullets and what the

results are..Thanks John:rockon:

I think people stay away from them and Swifts cause they are simply more expensive??

I've got some some speer hot-cors, TNT's and BTSP's on deck for reloading in 308 and 6.8 spc.

I'm also really curious about about swift sirocco II's which I have in 6.5 284 norma--just waiting for their reload dvd to get here..

I have good luck with them, you see them on line but few brick and mortar stock them, even less the swifts

I have used the TNT's on prairie dogs and they work great but they are a little more expensive, and offer no advantage over the Nosler, Hornady or Sierra bullets. I did load for an old Winchester Varmint 243 years ago that would not shoot anything well but the Speer 70 grn TNT.

Are they more expensive than Bergers?

I don't think the speers are--but the swifts are the most expensive bullets (except maybe for match grade stuff like lapua) that I've seen. Gotta admit that sirocco 2 looks like a highly efficient bullet and I hear it's deadly on game--but I've yet to work it up in loads. I have speer 130 gr spbt that I'm going to try in 6.8--and 165 hot cor for my 308. Their softpoints look alot like sierra pro-hunters. It seems like it's always a balancing act between wanting match-like accuracy and retaining enough velocity to remain an effective hunting round. Bergers are pretty expensive too, I've heard some people prefer them over game kings for longer distance hunting and they seem to deliver very good accuracy in general.

I mainly used Sierra in my 30-06 for years. After the Obama first term shortage came about I picked up some what I thought were cheap 150gr Speer soft point boat tails on Gun Broker.

So now I decided to use them in my new 12 FVSS .308 to break it in. So for the performance has been nothing less than outstanding!

I sighted it in 2 days ago @ 100 yards, the first 2 shots were hole for hole. I gave it 5 clicks up and fired 2 more shots. I really didn't try to hard on the 3rd and 4th shots, they were grouped at .551 . I guess I was still to excited from the first 2 shots.

Here's the target
