I have a newer (I say newer because of the composite stock) Model 24 22/20. Serial number is F587551. It says "Savage MODEL 24 22 Long Rifle" on the top barrel. Also on the top barrel below that it says "Savage Arms Inc Westfield Mass" . On the bottom barrel it says "Proof Tested 20 GA" and Chambered for 2 3/4 and 3" As well as what it might be worth? It was willed to me by my father. No one has any idea when it was purchased, although it is evident it was never fired. Tags still attached to it. Thanks in advance for any help.

The F prefix was used from 1989 through the end of 2002, and given the high number I'd say it would fall in the 1998-2002 range. Nothing really to I.D. as there was one and only one Model 24 in the latter years...the 24F. As for value, between the synthetic stock, the horrible triggers and the less popular break-open lever position on them the 24F's really aren't that sought after like the earlier models from the 60's and early 70's are. Maybe $350 to 400, possibly as much as $450 if you find someone who really, really wants one.
