We finally got a break in the weather up here in WI so I decided to sneak out and zero my new rifle.

I started with a stock Savage 10FP-SR. To this, I added a Shilen 24" 1:8 twist stainless 6.5 Creedmoor barrel from Jim at NSS. I had the barrel Gunkoted flat black. Then I dropped the barreled action into one of the new AICS 2.0 for Savage short actions and mounted a Warne Tactical 20MOA scope base. I topped the rifle with an IOR 4-16x50 FFP with the illuminated MRAD X1 reticle/10mil per turn elevation turret. The rings are from TPS at 1.225" height.

To mount the Atlas V8 bipod, I installed an Accu-Shot AFAR rail kit that slides into the AICS handstop groove. It works perfectly and is very light and unobtrusive.

I have shot so many rifles with two stage triggers that the AccuTrigger felt fine right away. I had no problem with feeding from my Accurate Mag AICS 10 rounders, and no extraction/ejection issues. Bolt lift was also fine.

More importantly, in the short time I spent at the range the rifle seemed to be a consistent 3/4 MOA (at 100 yds) shooter. It may be better than that, but I did not shoot specifically for groups.

The rifle weighs just a tad under 14lbs with the scope and an empty mag.

I like this setup. It is easy to shoot and not nearly as heavy as some of the long range rifles I've owned in the past. And honestly, it is very nice to be able to swap barrels at home with just a couple of hand tools and headspace gauges.

I don't know much about how Savages stand up over time, but I plan to find out!
