as you guys no iv been laying down alot of post to you guys. i still have more later on down there road lol. :) but for now i got a pretty good idea on my gun and stuff about her.

main question. i have the newest style stevens model 200 long action, 30-06. i was wondering if i could swap the barrel for a .308 cause of the better accuracy articals i have been reading. + .308 has plenty of knock down power still.

this is a range/hunting gun.

heres the kit i was hoping will work on my LONG ACTION STEVENS MODEL 200 30-06 lol

Yes, you can use the RH Shaw small shank .308 barrel on a Savage 110 LA. The bolt head is the same for both cartridges and the 308 will feed from the magazine. Might want to get an extra barrel nut. Because about the only way I have found to remove a factory installed smooth barrel nut is with a pipe wrench.

Yes, it'll work fine.

What articles have you been reading to lead you to believe the .308 is superior in accuracy to a .30/06? There's so many variables I can't buy into that as a blanket statement.

While you may have your own reasons for swapping from a 30-06 to a .308, I must agree with Opus Dei and suggest that your sweeping generalization that a .308 is inherently more accurate than a 30-06 is simply not true.

Have you worked up a load for your 30-06 or tried out several brands of factory ammo? My Savage factory barrels have all shot as well as the RH Shaw barrels I've owned. You may be suprised at the accuracy of a Savage factory barrel with the right load. You can always reload a 30-06 down to 308 performance. As a paid member to this site, you would have access to the classified section and acess to all the DIY information you need to customize your Savage and maximize its accuracy potential. If you want a custom barrel, check out the vendors on this site. Lots of happy folks with CBI barrels from Northland Shooters Supply (NSS). Jim has a wide selection of varmint barrels and calibers in stock. If this is going to be a hunting/paper punching rifle, you might want to consider a 26" CBI light varmint (LV) contour barrel. Same great performance as with a varmint contour barrel and less weight to pack around.

You omitted 150 gr. bullets. In .30/06 that is a happy medium for a variety of game, if your rifle shoots them well.

I'd start with the 168 gr AMAX in a 3006 Savage factory barrel. Most will shoot it well.
