View Full Version : Savage 12 F-class stock, tracking issue

G'day Guys and Gals,

I have a 12 F-class that I have been shooting through last year in its original 6BR chambering. I've since added a .284 and a 300wsm to that and have found an issue with the design of the stock when semi free-coiling larger calibres.

The tapered and excessively wide underside of the butt tracks terribly when free-coiled. I'm in the process of modifying the toe so that its a straight profile and tapers down to 16mm in width to allow it to ride on the stitches, guided by the ears of a SEB Bigfoot.

It was never a concern before as the 6BR recoils so lightly that the stock barely moves.

As the stock is, it rides halfway up the ears and as the taper comes into the ears, I believe the stock moves up. I find myself having to push the butt back into the rear bag after every shot. Also as a shoot progresses and the ears settle, I'm constantly adjusting the gross elevation on the front rest to compensate.

I'm fairly sure this is causing inconsistancies in elevation.

Has anyone experienced the same thing?

Has anyone modified the toe to rectify this problem?

Thanks, Denis.
