Someone here may know because this is the Savage capitol of the world I picked up a Savage 170 B series 30-30 (lucky me) it’s about an 80 percent now this one has an 18.5 inch barrel its number is C482XXX. It was very dirty (unloved) and had a few small areas of surface rust and 40 plus years of WD40 in the action. My question is did they make carbine’s what year do think it was made and an approximate value? I wanted one for many years. It has no loading problems that I have detected yet I have taken it out and put about half a box through it just to get it on paper at fifty yards it put 3 in about a 1 ¼ the weather was awful today. Any insight is welcome.

It was made in 1977 and yes, they made the carbines that year.

It's listed in the catalog with the same 18 1/2" bbl you describe. The carbines only came in 30-30 even though they did chamber the 170 in 35 Rem in the regular 170.

You got lucky, most of the little 30-30's had feeding issues, if yours doesn't I'd hold onto it for as long as possible.

Did you scope it or are you shooting the stock iron sights?

Hmmmm, not sure but I think thats right.

I used to have one in 30-30 but got rid of it and only kept the one in 35 Rem.

them fancy, pointy hornaday .30-30s shoot well out of the one I had.

They shoot great out of the 35 Rem to but they sure pack a punch in the shoulder. Regular old 150 gr soft points are alot easier on the arm I find. Unless I was shooting at something I guess, then you wouldn't even feel it.
