300 win mag barrel change

I'm new and I just bought a used savage 111 in 300 win mag to go elk hunting this year in montana.Can any one tell me if I can change barrels to a lighter cartridge to hunt locally mainly coyotes.How small can I go?

You can go with any caliber that will take the .534" bolt head. With a bolt head swap, you can move to any caliber you want, if you want single feed.

If you stay with the current bolt head then a .264 Win Mag would be a easy swap.

You can take it down as far as you want. I recently took a 7mmRM and turned it into a 223 repeater. I found an elusive long action 223 bolt head and a legged front baffle for the bolt. For the magazine I epoxied a 223 centerfeed magazine into the mag well.

Not hard, just took a bit of a creative with a solution.
