Those small screw holes are probably just that. At the bottom of each hole will be the head of the screw holding the pad onto the stock.
(What follows is not a joke, and is not me getting into the gutter - I just don't know any better way of saying it.)
Put some lubrication on your screwdriver shaft when you try to unscrew it. Othewise the pad material will grab the shaft and make it difficult to insert or turn.

I can't remember if they use Phillips or slotted screws, I think Phillips. If one doesn't work try the other.

It's my Savage 11 Hog Hunter in .223 wearing the Boyd's Tacticool stock, a Nikon Buckmasters 6-18X40 with sunshade, A2 flash hider and a Blackhawk bipod.

Can't post pics?

Try reading this: http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?16607-The-ultimate-guide-to-posting-pictures-so-easy-a-caveman-can-do-it!

Edit your post. Look for the icons at the top of the edit screen, if there are none, then click on "Go Advanced" at the bottom of the edit window, then go back to the top and look for them.

Click on the icon that has a picture of a tree in it: (It says "Insert Image" when you roll your mouse over it.)
Click on that icon and then paste your link in the space that will pop up. Make sure you delete everything in your link after ".jpg" because, in this case, it is all useless fluff that merely confuses the bulletin board program.

Good luck.

The forearm looks more B&C A2-styled (blocky low wings) than McM A5-styled (rounded)...

Which barrel channel did you order? How does it fit?

Did you do anything to the forend? It looks more beavertailed than the rounded rimfire forends.

This stock has really got my attention. I have four Boyds stocks (three thumbhole's and one tacticool rimfire) on rifles currently. I was going to put a B&C Medalist stock on my 10FP, but this seems just as nice for 1/2 the price. Once I bed the stock, I would expect it to shoot just as well.

The only thing I did to it was to open up the trigger inletting a little. Otherwise the action just dropped right in. The magazine is a little tight and at first I had it set too deep, but I pulled it up and now it's fine. I have not touched the fore end. I may end up having to clear out some material under the tang, though. It's not free floating. I ordered the heavy barrel channel as the Hog Hunter has a "medium" profile that's closer to heavy barrel than it is to the thinner factory profile.

does that stock have a flat or round forend?

It's rounded. Here's some more shots so you have a better idea how it's shaped.

Looks like it'll take a Harris bipod nicely. Thanks for the pics.

...that's definitely a different forearm than the rimfire Tacticool...

Has anyone gotten a Tacticool center fire stock for a long action savage? I'm interested in one but Boyd’s only list factory barrel channel for the long action on there web site. I'm worried there won't be enough wood left after opening it up for a varmint barrel. If anyone has used a long action with a varmint contour barrel I would appreciate any info on how it fit after opening the channel up. Thanks!

The barrel channel can be opened up with a barrel channel tool from gunline tools in about an hour.

Anyone know what happened to Gunline tools? The website at the above link is empty and I also went to Midway, used to have their products, comes up empty now!

No way. I love those guys.

Same for me. I hate it for them. I hope all is well.

If you have a router or a mill, you can use core box bits to do barrel inlets with. They are basically half round bits.
Magnate 812, and Magnate 814 are the ones I use. If you use a router, you have to make a guide so it follows centerline of your stock.
