scope need for target shooting

To date I am only shooting at the local range in open F T/R class at reduced
sized targets.The bull is maybe 3/4 inch..Not sure...Aint got a lot to spend
on a scope,but would like something a little better than my BSA..
Maybe asking too much ,but would like a fine cross hair and at least 24 power.

Looked at the Nikons but wasn't sure if they had the fine cross hairs or not.
Never know,I might want to go a shoot that is longer range....
Rifle caliber is .223 Mc Gowin barrel...Anyone know about the one Nikon calls
223 or 308? Soon be time to be shooting again..Thanks for any advice you

It terms of bang for the buck - it is hard to beat the Weaver T series. Decent optics and good tracking. I have owned 2 Weaver T36 with excellent results. I traded them last year for a Leupold 45x Competition Series. Honestly, I would like to have my T36s back. You can find a used T24 or T36 for $300-325 on the boards. New will run you ~$400.

I have a friend that won a benchrest match with a $70 TruGlo 36 power scope. Definitely not the clearest optics. But is would hold point-of-impact well enough to win. Don't know if he still shoots it or if it even lasted to the next match.

My experience is get the best optics you can afford.

Tim--I agree I have a weaver T 16 BUT IT HAS THE 1/4 CLICKS Iwould like the 1/8
if possible...I guess I will have to save up a few more and get me a good one..

Both of my T36s had 1/8 clicks. Not sure what the T24 has. Tim

Have a look at the Sightron SII 36x42mm. Has 1/8" adjustments and fine crosshair. .

Ace lok at the Mueller 6-24 or the 8-32 both have fine cross hairs with a dot. They are crystal clear and repeatable, sell for around $250. I have one of each on bench guns and am satisfied with both.
