HI i am new to this form. I have been reading it for a while. I bought 3 used small shank savage barrels at a gun show and have a question on 2 of them . First one is a 26 in heavy in 260 AI with a 1 in 9 twist. will it stabilize 140 gr VLD or 142 MK ? The other barrel is a 26 in heavy in 6mm BR It has a 1 in 8 twist I checked the twists with a tight patch and marked them on a cleaning rod. The second barrel has markings on the chamber end written on the end with a electric pen 6mm BR NORMA - 8T - SM - S8 I was hoping some of you with more knowledgeable savage shooters can identify the barrel maker from the marks on this barrel Thanks Bionicbob I have a savage 10 predator 223 and a model 12 F class in 6.5 284 norma and love the way they shoot

9" twist may stabilize the 140-142 grain bullets, it depends on the barrel. The BR barrel sounds like a Shilen.

welcome to the site.

Pretty sure the 6br barrel is a 8twist Shilen... The "SM" should stand for Shilens "select match" barrel.
