Hello everyone,

I'm new here, new to bolt action rifles and excited to have a brand new Savage 10 FCP-K (18608). I went to the range today to zero it at 100 yards, and wasn't able to fire it even once.

What happens is that I pull the trigger, you can hear (and feel) it click... and that's it... I did this several times, with different rounds, working the bolt, but nothing... It looks like the firing pin doesn't even hit the primer. There is absolutely no sign on the primer that it was hit. (The safety was off).

I took the bolt out and the firing pin does protrude, but maybe not enough? I will contact Savage on Monday, since they don't work Saturdays, but I was curious if anyone has any idea what the cause could be.

I'm sure that eventually things will work out well, and I look forward to shooting my new rifle, but for now I'm bummed. I'll have to most likely cancel a long range rifle class in two weeks... unless I get lucky... Any ideas? Thank you.

just a thought..Is this a new rifle? If so maybe the bolt needs to have the grease flushed out of it..Carburator cleaner works good for this..Spray it in the firing pin hole and shake it out a few times..Pull a bullet and dump out the powder and see if the primer fires this time..good luck with it..I know sometimes if it is cold they wouldn't fire if too much oil or grease in there...

Gotta ask,are you using the correct ammo?

Yes, new rifle. I'll spray the bolt, but temperature wasn't a problem. I'm in Southern California.

Yes, I'm using 308 ammo.

Another thing check the end of the bolt and see it the screw is screwed in tight..It probably is an allen head..

Tighten up the pull on the trigger. Sounds like it's set to light.
Not unusuall even on a new gun.

Snow? The white thing they show on TV? LOL I actually like four seasons...

At the end of the bolt there is this... indicator which shows if it's cocked or not. No allen head.

The trigger pull is light, but do you think this would cause it to not fire? The firing pin does go forward.

I'm pretty sure I found the problem... Same as in this thread (http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?20481-Bolt-will-not-completely-close). Bolt doesn't close down completely because the cheap front screws of the scope base are too long. I should have noticed that at the range... but I'm new to bolt action.. I'm off to the indoor range now to confirm that this was the problem.

I ran into the same problem with mine and have spent a few hours today fishing the broken front screw out. If you're gun has the same preserving oil in it mine did,I would do a good cleaning and re oiling. Mine was nasty.

I just got back from the indoor range. Rifle works great! Huge relief... Plenty loud indoors, but little recoil. I can't wait to take it outdoors.

I was lucky with the screw, it wasn't broken. I took it out and that was it. Now I have to find a better solution for that.

I would just shorten the screw up, thats what I did on mine. There was a place that let you shoot it indoors? ****!

How did you shorten it?

Yeah, the local indoor range has a few lanes where they allow rifles (after you pass their rifle test, which means showing you are able to only shoot at the backstop and not at the floor, walls, ceiling and target hangers). You don't really see big rifles, mostly AR15s.

Lightly file the end of the screw until you get it to the desired length

I did mine the same way.

I'm sure it would work, but I won't bother. I ordered Warne base and rings.

Wishing you a great year with your FCP-K. I bought one Thanksgiving, was able to shoot 53 rounds this weekend at 100 and 200 yards. Mine is good for 4" or better groups at 500 meters with box ammo. Very happy with mine.
