Howdy y'all! I'm Leaf from West Virginia, and I'm looking for some recommendations on where to get some OEM parts, and/or advice on how to fix some stuff...

I recently picked up a couple of model 24 combination rifles, a 24C Series N in .22LR over 20ga cyl bore 18" bbls and a 24V Series B in .30-30 over 20ga full choke 24" bbls. I think they are from the 60s or 70s sometime, because all the 80s and later break action savages I've seen have the release in front of the trigger guard instead of on the tang.

The C has a real neat trapdoor buttstock that holds 2 20ga and 10 .22 shells. I like it a lot.

It's also a takedown model. Pops into 2 pieces and packs away nice and neat in about 5 seconds.

The C was also missing a rear sight elevator, so I drifted the folding leaf sight off the V and put it on the C, since the V has some other issues that need to be addressed, and I figure the C will see a lot more use. Folds down out of the way right nice for wing shooting. I'd rather have a folding peep, but I don't think there's one made anymore that will fit, at least not according to the internet!

The .30-30 24V is pretty rough, though, but the price was right.

Somebody made their own trigger guard for it.

And the front sight blade is broke off.

I don't think it's a lost cause, though. The bores on both guns are shiny as can be, and the .22 is a tack driver (haven't shot the .30-30 yet), so I think they're worth fixing up a little.

These are both going to be truck/ATV/farm guns (though the C almost seems too nice for that), so I don't really care about the trigger guard on the V being like it is, but the missing front sight is a deal breaker as far as being able to shoot the thing. I don't want to put the non-folding rear sight back on the C, either, so I think I need both front and rear sights for the .30-30.

Problem is, I can't find them anywhere. Numrich is out of stock for both. Brownells only sells the screw-on front sights for (I assume) the early .22-410. Jack First's was closed when I called, but I figure even if they could fabricate one, it'd be way too expensive for a truck gun.

I figure I can come up with something for the rear sight, but that front sight being molded into the barrel band is problematic. I'm thinking maybe I can tape a piece of cardboard in place of the blade and snip it down as I sight it in, to figure out what height it needs to be. Then I can grind off the broken front sight and file it smooth, JBweld some other front sight of the right height on there, and try to reblue. What do y'all think of that idea? Or is there anywhere else I ought to try looking for the original part?

Thanks!

Surprised that Numrichs doesn't have the parts.

The 24C (C stands for "camper") model came with a take down case that went with it, does yours still have the case to?

A 24V (V for "varmint") model might have been grooved at the factory for scope mounts, most were, is yours? If so I'd think if you wanted to go with a peep sight you should try and grab up one of the Redfield peep sights made for the Savage 24's, theres actually one on Ebay right now for it.

Sorry, no spare 24 parts here but I'm wondering if a 219 or 220 trigger guard would fit the one that had been replaced on yours, alot of the 219 and 220 parts can be swapped to the model 24's.

The 24V's weren't grooved for dovetailed rings, they were actually drilled and tapped to accept a bolt-on base. Weaver still makes the base, #74, as it's the same base used on the later 24F's that were just discontinued a few years ago.

Even easier to find a peep then, I see Williams still makes one for this gun.
