Hi guys. Hoping someone can help me find the right bullet for my 1:9" twist 22-250. I use this gun strictly for paper punching (at 100, 200, 300, & 400yd matches). I've been using the Hornady 75gr AMAX bullets with mixed results. Is the Greenhill formula accurate/relevant? It shows that the optimum length for this twist would be 1.003". The 73gr Berger HPBT, 75gr Hornady HPBT, 77gr Sierra HPBT MK, & 77gr Nosler CC bullets are all under this length, while the Hornady 75gr AMAX is not. What are you guys using? Thanks!

Unless I am mistaken, the savage barrel is a 1:9.25. But I shoot the 75gr HPBT from Hornady out of my 223 with the same twist rate and it shoots 1/2 MOA. With the extra powder you might be able to go heavier or to a VLD style bullet of similar weight.

the twist is 1 in 9. try the 75 gr. hornady match with 32.0 gr. of varget,.020" jump. should be coming out about 3000 fps. or 3050 fps. i have the factory s.s. fluted barrel.MARK25-06

The geenhill formula is a nice approximation, but it's just that.
Call the bullet makers and ask them what RPM range makes the bullet happy, then do the math yourself.
RPM = MV X 720 / Twist

Thanks guys. I'm going to give the Hornady 75gr BTHPs a try.
