I want to see more pix of the fluted bolts!! I just ordered an LVT from SSS and would like to get one done to match the stock. Any way we can get some more pictures?

If I had seen this thread the day before yesterday I would have ordered one with the stock and the rest of the stuff :'(

I think everyone should keep Fred so busy, he can never work on a Remy!

With Savage's growth rate, we might have to clone Fred :)

I feel your pain. I have an action with Fred for T&T and Evo 2 right now. If I had known prior it would have one of those bolts and handles too :'(

Not always, I found it is best to call them in the late morning early afternoon. You can try and send them an e-mail, and ask for them to give you a call.

Got mine in the mail today, even though I told them they could wait and send it with my barrel when it is done. Sweet service from them to send it early. I had to put it together immediately, of course.
Mine has the flutes colored in a "smoke" color.

Already have the SSS stock and trigger, now I just need the new 260 barrel and it'll be ready to put together.

Any one know if the painted handles/fluting was a special one time thing, or does SSS do that regularly? I think a nice gloss orange to match my Black/Black/Orange VLT would look great! Did you guys send your bolt in for the service or are they brand new? Also, what is the price on this service? Thanks!

I just sent an Email and told them to send me 2 short action bolt bodies. (fluted)
Had to send in my "J" series bolt body to get it done. Turnaround was about a week or 10 days. And if you want it "tomorrow", you should have ordered it last week. ;) Email has "always" worked good for me. Place your order and they'll get to it when the can. Never a rush on my end.

If you want color on the flutes, try a "highliter" pen. Works slick. Want a color change? (We all like changes) Use a different colored pen. Just keep the gun cleaner off the flutes. It'll last as long as you want it to. ;) The color you like today may not be the color you like tomorrow. :)

Thats what I thought, and why I went with a smoke gray color. It'll match anything I put it on. Was gonna go with Blue to match my stock, but figured "what if I change the stock down the road".....LOL

Not a chance, I have been a member of "team orange" (a family thing) since I was in HS. I sent off my e-mail this morning so we will see what happens. Thanks for the info!

That is not paint, but it is powder coating. SSS does powder coating upon request. I am not sure if they have orange, but they should be able to get it, make add to the time of your bolt being finished.

oops, sorry about that. I am not experienced with things like this. Hopefully they have a powder coat that will work for me. How durable is that stuff? Not like I am going to be bringing it into the badlands hunting with me, but how does it handle the occasional bump and banging around?

Very durable, (More so than paint) should take a licking and keep on ticking.

Here's my contribution to this thread. It's a left bolt right port built on a striker action Fred just sent the bolt back to me. I originally had him TT the action and install a trigger. My gunsmith and I then epoxied a flat botttom on the receiver and bedded it on a full length flat bedding block. It's is currently wearing a 22-250 take off but may be a 6BR by this time next week.
