Howdy

I am a newbie here and have been searching, I am going to reload later but not now. I am just going to shoot some commercially available ammo, mostly punching paper with some coyote, pig, prairie dog/ varmint killing in the mix. What are y'all using that works well and doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks!!

Try 168 gr. Federal Gold Medal Match, it will be extremely accurate. 150 Winchester Power Points hunting ammo shoots pretty good for the cheap stuff.

GM308M & GM308M2, by which all others are judged.

Thanks again ! I was looking at the GM308M and the black hills variant of it. I just got the email my scope is on the way.

Federal GMM is good stuff but not exactly what I would want to be hunting anything with. Little hole in, little hole out, and an animal running around not dead.

Your right Samdweezel05 about that, but it will be fine for coyotes if you don't want pelt damage and it will knock them dogs down HARD. I've killed many woodchucks with them with no issues, but for deer I wouldn't use the GMM. Pigs seem tough skinned so the match bullet would probably open up pretty good, I would use GMM on pigs but there is none around this area.

There is going to be some pig killing with this gun there's ton around here. Coyotes I don't care about the pelt. I was thinking some hollow points for a bit more damage. The pigs have that shoulder armor that you gotta get through.

Dont waste good meat.. head shot the hog.. any ammo will accomplish that. Dont believe the hype. I have used the Federal soft points from Wal-Mart and dropped 300lb hogs in there tracks with a head shot... you got to use a stout bulled that drives hard to take a large hog through the shoulder.. if u break the shoulder but dont damage the vitals, a hog will do a 3 legged sprint!!!

I guess I wasn't thinking pigs as we don't have them here either....yet. From what I read it's like shooting a concrete wall so your right in saying the GMM would probably do well.

It widely varies on price. I have buddies with big ranches that mostly want them exterminated, but both of them i can't take anybody that they don't ok
