Why more aftermarket for short actions?

Why is it that when it comes to aftermarket goodies (stocks, extended magazines, etc.) for your rifle there are so many more choices for a short action?

Probably because there's a lot less demand for long-action products these days. It's no secret that most every popular long-action cartridge ever offered (aside from the big African cartridges) now has a short action equivalent that performs equally well or better than it's L/A predecessor. In other words, long-actions are old-school now that we're into the 21st century.

I'd also go as far to say as the 308 is one of the most popular (even if it is losing to some others more recently) caliber used for target shooting and tactical matches. Therefore a lot of the aftermarket is based on the consumers who modify their 308 rifles which are usually short action.

sales! they research the sales of a rifle and then they support the ones with the biggest sales. No after market grips for the savage 101

extended mags. you have to make something that the customer can afford to buy also.
making a couple hundred 300 win mag extended mags wont sell for enough profit to cover the research and development

And all the cartridges that the .308 has already lost the shooting match to are also short action cartridges. Most of them based on the .308. No one that wants to be competitive these days uses .308 unless they are shooting in a class that requires them to use it.
