I wish I could keep this from happening but these stupid rifle keep following me home. Now what do I do with it?

Stevens 200 .223. I will be forced to shoot it tomorrow. Might have to throw it in the woods if it doesn't shoot well.

I have had way to many follow me home, and I cured it by letting them ride in the truck instead. Congrats on another smart buy and if you dont like it,make it something else like a .20 prctical or .223AI.

The 200 is the most fun you can have for 300 bucks. Congrats on the buy, and please accept my compliments on that slab of a workbench. That is awesome.

Best budget rifle Savage made! I'd like to get my hands on a few more short actions to have fun with. I have a spare .358 Win barrel that needs a home, as well as a 6mm #2 Douglas blank that I'm wanting to build a 6X204 with.

Thanks. It's amazing what you can do with a chainsaw and a home made milling attachment.

Took it out to the range today just as I bought it. Of all the Stevens 200's I have bought I have never shot one from the factory. Always just tore them apart for a build. This little bugger was putting 3 shots touching at 100 yds with the BSA 3-9x50 scope from a bi-pod. Load was something that I put together 4 or 5 years ago for one of my AR's. It was 24.5gr of Varget under a 50gr Nosler BT. I have a Duramax stock here to put it in tomorrow and the trigger needs some serious help. Almost takes 2 people to pull it.

Nice lookin wood!!!

Now that I saw where you live.....you'ld have to throw it pretty hard to reach my woods! But if you want to try..........might chunk a piece of that wood there too! :p

Pictures help. This is a 5 shot group but the first shot was to the right so I had to adjust. Other 4 shots are all inside the 3/4" blue dot. Best group of the day was .311" CTC

I have one. More fun than any other rifle I own. 69 SMK, 25.3 Varget,LC Brass, BR primers, sub MOA all day. Mine likes bigger bullets better.

That's kinda making me feel bad for taking mine home and tearing it all apart before shooting it. I hope i'm not putting a grand into mine to make it shoot worse...

The load was just what I had here. I will try heavier stuff later.

It probably won't shoot any worse but is that $1,000 worth a possible .100" smaller group size? Only you can decide that. My buddies 12VLP that started out as a .223 and I turned into a .308 with a factory savage barrel will shoot in the 1's and 2's with out much effort with factory ammo.

In and of itself, the .100 is probably not worth it. That being said, I've always wanted a custom rig, and the fact that I'm getting to build it myself has been very cool. I guess I'll chalk it up to a $1000 education since I've learned so much. Not to mention I'm going to end up with a badass looking rifle that's a one of a kind for not much more than most bone stock off-the-shelf rifles.

That is my only reason for building them. I just want to.

For a trigger you can not do better than the Rifle Basix. It was the final touch I did to my Stavage (Stevens 200 in a Savage wood stock) in 7MM-08.
It made all the difference in the world.
