I stopped at the local walmart and noticed these twist rates. Then I looked on Walmarts website. Is this for real or has walmart got a typo going? If the 22-250 would shoot 69 or 68 grain bullets that would be an awesome coyote gun. Has anyone else seen this????

Actually the 223 would/should be a 9 twist but the 22-250 in a 9 twist would be awsome.

I'm going to call Savage on this because if it is the case the 223 would handle the Sierra 77 & 80 grain bullets making it an easy 600 yd gun.

Straight from Savages website:

223= 1-9" Twist
22-250= 1-12" Twist

Going to have to step up a long ways from the axis to get the 1 in 9 twist 22-250. The LRPV comes to mind, not sure if anything below this price point is offered.

Not saying the twist are right or not, but it would not be the 1st. special order for a big buyer.

I don't think we can trust anything from Walmart. I have on my desk right now a selling guide issued to the folks behind the gun counter as I have a friend that works there. They list a 1:7 twist for 223 thru 30-06. We all know that's bull.

Problem with rechanmbering is you need a box and bolt head but it would still be a great round for the cost.

The Walmart order guide is not to be trusted it also calls the Axis .223 a .223/5.56 which is not quite right. But people see that and take it for fact since its in print.

I called Effie at Savage and she said these were Axis models but the twist is 1-12 for the 22-250 and the 223 she thought would be a 1-9 but here is the funny part. She knew these were Axis models but these model nos. do not exist on the Savage Arms website. I'm going to see if Walmart will let me run a rod down the pipe to see if they indeed are what they say. It's sort of a crazy deal since these model numbers are not on the website and are probably different guns made exclusively for Walmart.
