In the market for a 30-06 and am considering the Browning X Bolt, Remington 700, or the Savage American Classic 114. Now in all honesty, each of these will do the job as intended. I'd like to know from the Savage aficionados what makes the 114 a better choice. What are the nuances that makes the Savage a better choice in your mind? I like Savage because they are made in the USA and as with my golf equipment, I like to support the underdog in the market.

You'll probably find the Savage 114, out of the box, will out shoot the other two. The Savage barrel nut system lends itself to better accuracy. In the future, if you get tired of the 30-06 caliber, it's a simple job to rebarrel to another caliber. What's not to like about a Savage!

I was just talking to Jim at Northland shooters and know for a fact that he has a 114 classic in 30-06 in stock.
Northland is sponsor here on the board. You can call him at 763-682-4296. Jim at Northland is a great person to work with and to know. They also carry aftermarket barrels for when you want to change the caliber at some later time.

I have the Savage AC 30-06. It will regulary shoot 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards. I ordered it with the Savage factory muzzle brake. Accurate out of the box. And little recoil because of the brake. It is my favorite big game rifle. It has put many deer in the freezer and ruined the day for some coyotes. Whitetail
