Hopefully he doesn't say, "...This isn't a Remington...I'M A FORMER SNIPER!"

Haha.

Haha.

Matt, that is a possibility however I think he will ultimately not care. He will have a precision .308 that's his.

Haha yeah I'm sure he will be more than ecstatic.

If he doesn't like it, just write REMINGTON on the stock with sharpie. Fixed.

Well gang, my replacement screws from EGW showed up today and I promptly got the rail on the Shilen setup. I intended to sand down that rifle and get it painted tonight, but then I made the mistake of checking in on the McGowan setup. Much to my dismay, it's finish was cured enough to handle. I don't know what, but something inside me twitched, and then this happened:

McGowan setup, with Rifle Basix Sav-1 installed and adjusted, permanently mounted in it's Bell & Carlson Medalist Tactical stock in O.D. green with black web, EGW 20 MOA rail, finished in Brownell's Alumahyde II in dark earth.

Before I knew it, this had happened....I just couldn't help myself!!

Almost! But not quite. Going to get ammo ordered this week along with drag bags and rear bags. Ammo might take a couple weeks to actually receive. Which is fine as this one needs a few days yet for the Alumahyde to finish curing. Still have to prep and paint the Shilen as well.

Well folks, I got the Shilen prepped and painted in O.D. green on Wednesday night. It is currently hanging in my utility room, curing. I am also finally done ordering things for these rifles (although not all of it is here yet). I am currently waiting on drag bags, and rear bags which should be here Monday from Midway USA. I ordered ammo from http://www.southwestammunition.com/ but like everyone else, there is a delay on their ammo due to the current hysteria. They're quoting a 7-10 day delay, so this will be the biggest hold up at this point before I can finalize each setup, and bring my buddy over here for his little surprise. With all that said, I figured it was time to add up the final damages and get you all a break down, as built.

Both rifles together. McGowan on top, Shilen on bottom. Although hard to tell in these pictures, I promise that the McGowan is painted in earth brown, and the Shilen is painted in O.D. green.

Awesome! How do you think the alumahide will stand up over time vs. cerakote?

To tell you the truth, I really don't know. I have never handled a cerakoted or duracoted rifle, so i'm not really sure. I can tell you that the alumahyde is epoxy based, so I would have to think that it should be fairly durable.

I have used both Alumahyde and Cerakote. Alumahyde is easier to apply but not nearly as tough as Cerakote.

So when is the magical day that he sees it?

Drag bags and rear squeeze bags are slated to arrive tomorrow. The ammo though, not sure. I ordered it Tuesday night and it is still in an "in processing" state. However, Southwest is quoting a 7-10 day delay on all orders thanks to the recent panic. My guess at this time, is another 2 weeks. We shall see though. Really it all hinges on the ammo. Which is ok, really. It will give ample time for the Alumahyde to be 100% cured on both rifles, and I may even go and function test a couple rounds through each rifle, prior to the big day just to ensure that all is well (and safe).

You need to post a range report after you get your next shipment. ;)
