Hello,

I am new to the Savages, and I want to know how to adjust firing pin protrusion in an Axis.

Many thanks!

Ok. Someone had told me that the only difference between the Axis and the 110 was the fire control group but apparently he was incorrect.

Many thanks Gmac5!

Is the ring on the forward part of the firing pin the stop? So you would have to remove material from the forward side of the ring in order to increase firing pin protrusion?

Why do you need more? How much do you have now?
Gmac5 asks a good question.

Have you read this? http://www.savageshooters.com/content.php?143-Firing-Pin-Protrusion-Data

...The tip of the firing pin will never indent the primer over about .025". It will bottom out on the anvil of the primer. Typically the protrusion is set from the factory at about .055", which is plenty long and all it does is limit the firing pin travel, giving less impact energy. .035" is optimum.

How would you go about measuring the protrusion of the pin, seems like a awkward place to measure, what tool would you use and how?

I currently do not have a Savage Axis but was looking at one as a base for a wildcat project gun. I was going to use a short action 223rem as a base (mainly to minimize needed machining to bolt face). I know that firing pin protrusion in an AR15 is around 0.029", which is short of the 0.055" - 0.059" I will need for this project.

The quote by sharpshooter above says it's typically set at 0.055" Is that true for a 223rem Axis? If so, no worries!

Thanks!
Derek

Nice find. You just replied to a 4 year old thread.
