With rock chuck season just around the corner, I was wondering if anyone knows of a good bullet for the 338 Edge that will give similar effects on rock chucks that I have seen from a fast stepping 223 Rem with a 52gr Sierra hollow point? Maybe the 200gr Leverevolution at like 3300fps or something?

Actually, Old Boy, when using larger gentleman size cartridges, I prefer the .416 Rigby with 400grn solids.

Funny thing about rockchucks....there seams to always be a rock around to barkem with. Use your big game load for some off season practice only aim a little low or whatever will frag the little monsters.
Man will a big bullet bounced off a rock send them flying :D :D

Been there and done that from 257AI through the big stuff.
Really enjoy hitting a 8-10 pound rock with big 338 and above none expanding bullets. Its a hoot watching the buggers run around like drunk sailors.

When you can find them the 180 grain Ballistic tips in the 338 are extremely explosive!

..I'ld try the Barnes 160 gr. TTSX...I'ld say you would probably get some pretty good air time or chuncks flying..lol.. ;D

Hornady is coming out with a GMX bullet for the .338 and it's either 180 or 185 grains. Should work pretty well.

Sounds expensive.

Although a decent weight, 160 gr barnes bullets are expensive.
I would try something cheaper like some 200 gr hornady tipped SST's

I'll second the 180 Ballistic Tips if you can find them. Out of a 338 WM they were impressive. Out of the Edge they would have to be spectacular.

I'll look for the 180 BTs then. They sound like exactly what I'm looking for. I wonder if I will be able to hit 3500fps with them. Do they still make them? Does anybody know of a good online source for them?

Unfortunately they don't make the 180 BT any more. I thought that you might be able to track some down, but I came up empty handed when I just did a search. I think the next best thing would be the either 200gr Hornady or the 200gr CT Ballistic Silvertip. I know that the 200gr Speer is nearly indestructable, so that probably wouldn't work. Dang, that 180 BT would have been perfect. :-\

I think they still make the 180gr accubond though which is similar to the BT, but it might not open as violently as you would want.

...Barnes might be pricey, but I think you could drive them to 3600fps out of that Edge....Messy...lol.. ;)...Where's the fun if you have to worry about the cost..Think of the red mist... :D..

With a 26" barrel you should pretty easily reach 3500fps with either the 180 grain or the 185 Barnes.

I am getting better than 3000fps from a 17" handgun barrel with the 160 gr bullet from a 338WSM. I would imagine 3600fps or close to it from a 26" barreled Edge. BC is poor for long shots though.
