I was wondering if Axis barrels are compatible with 110 series rifles and vice-versa. I have several 110 actions, right and left hand, and I have extra barrels I switch out for the different hunting seasons. I was considering another action and one or two more calibers/barrels, so I'd like to know if I should scout out Axis as an alternative to another 110. I do not own one at this time.

I swap between Axis & 110 actions on a regular basis. It is somewhat habit forming, you know....

Please barrel swap responsibly and in moderation.

This will be my first do-it-myself barrel swap, do I have to disassemble the bolt head to get the proper headspace? I have a set of no & go gauges. I will also have to open the channel in my stock for the new barrel. How easy is it to get the original barrel off and what specialty tools will I need?

Do a search on the forum for barrel swapping. You'll be reading for a while but the end result is you'll be so smart, you won't be able to stand yourself.
Some guys like to take the ejector pin & spring out when they headspace. Personally, I don't. It's never caused me any trouble.

Look for a new or good used action wrench & a Savage barrel nut wrench. I think SharpShooterSupply has quality stuff at a decent price. And read. Read a few threads from the forum & after your first swap, you too will be a genuine Savage Addict. You'll be required to attend Savage Addicts Anonymous twice weekly.
Have fun & don't forget to double check your work.
