Hi guys I am thinking about a 6.5 creedmoor build. Can you point me in the right direction. What action works best? Long or short. What has to be done to the bolt head? What is best barrel length and twist?

I was just going to tell you that Jim at NSS has a complete new rifle in the creedmoor. My shootin buddy bought one from him about a month ago and is still working up his load....but it's looking to be one darn accurate shooter!!

But, I just looked on Jim's threads and he's all sold out.

So....my post here is really worthless to you.

No need for a long action. With the Savage short action, you'll have the bullet completely out of the case before you run out of magazine length.

So would a 308 action work or a 223 or 243? What needs to be done to the magazine for it to feed

The .308, .243 and .223 use the same action in a Savage. The .243 and .308 use the sam magazine. Get a donor rifle in .308, .243, .22-250, 7mm-08 or the like and you won't have to change anything but the barrel to get it to feed and extract correctly. The Creedmoor is little more than a .308 case shortened and necked to .264 and blown out to an "improved" configuration.

What is the best barrel length and twist for this round? It will be a table only gun so a 30" barrel or longer want be a problem if it will get the most from the 6.5

How far are you planning on shooting? Longer the distance, longer the barrel. If you're only going to be shooting 1-200yds, no reason to go over 22" or so but if you plan to take advantage of the good long range ballistics of heavy 6.5 bullets 26-30" is great You want a 1:8 twist, but that's pretty much the standard for 6.5mm barrels anyway.

I want a rifle that I could hit the 1000 yard plate so I guess the longer the better?
