View Full Version : Mark I/II/93R: Muzzle Brake on .17hmr TRR SR

I finally was able to find a 93R17 TRR SR after a year of searching. Love the gun but do not like the cap on the muzzle to protect the threaded barrel (1/2x28). Would like to replace it with a muzzle break. Will any 1/2x28 muzzle break/flash hider( a la AR15) work? Any affect on accuracy?

I know that it is not a functional need but purely for aesthetics.

I think it will make it louder than you might like. I could get by with no ear protection when shooting either my HMR or WMR, but that 17 will get real loud with a brake, I believe.

Not a problem as I only shoot it at the range and hearing protection is always required.

Yes its threaded 1/2-28, standard AR-15 threading, and yes you can use AR-15 brakes and flash hiders. The fact that the brake wont be as effective on a .17 as it would on a .22 is of course moot since recoil is so little to begin with, but it will still make it a bit louder.

Like installing a set of wheelie bars on a '71 Pinto. Ugly and ineffective.

An M-16/M-4 Style (Squirrel Cage) "Flash Hider" Should Thread right on & would be Much more Functional & Very Effective in Reducing or even Eliminate the Muzzle Flash from a .17. Besides it would Look TactiCool.

I installed a Phantom flashhider on my FVSR as I didn't like the look of just the cap on the end of the barrel. It was a standard AR15 thread and screwed right on, I also used a crush washer. The final result was purely for looks and made a nice improvement in the looks of the rifle.

A muzzle brake will also affect the harmonics. Sometimes on a rimfire it is not good.

I agree with most thoughts, but if the OP does not like the cap then it would be an improvement for him right!?! It is, afterall, HIS rifle ;)

...for about $50 you could put on a FAKE suppressor just for the looks of it if you wanted to!

If it were mine I'd just leave the factory thread protector on there and call it good, but it's not mine and it's nice to have options :)
