Calib, I did some reloads for a friend of mine that has an older bolt action remington in 222. His twist was 1-12", and the 55 VMAX did pretty well on coyotes out to about that range. I used both Varget and RL-15 for him, and there was no noticeable difference between them.

I loaded for one marketed by montgomery ward that is actually a savage. I settled on 50-55gr bullets with win 748 powder. Groups between 1" and more frequently 1'5" were common with a 3-9 scope. Plenty good enough for a fur gun. Try some of the 50gr lead tipped sierra bullets, they do great in my .223 with RL10x.

I've shot and loaded for the 222 for alot of years.I usually use 50 grain bullets in the 222.It is an absolute idiot proof cartridge to load for.I've never had one that would not shoot itty bitty groups.BLC-2,IMR4198,H322,H335 all work real well.300 yards should be no problem for the rifle as long as you point it right.

I have an older remington 700 that will shoot one ragged hole all day long with a 52 gr hornady bthp and imr4895, if you have their book it is in there and it is accurate all the way out to 300yds. Mine never really liked the 55's in any brand, so the hornady load has been my go to load for year's

I just sold two 222's, a 722 and a Tikka Lsa55. Both liked 24.5 grs BLC2 and 50 gr bullets. Actually H322 worked great too. I don't think i have ever been around a bad shooting 222.

why did you get rid of the 222's?

I haven't been using them, and I am in the process of building a 6 Dasher sporter, and funding it with sold 222's. I ordered a Rock Creek barrel a couple weeks ago and will be buying a Marlin XS7 to screw the barrel on to. Also sold a heavy barreled Swift awhile back. I have a standard weight Swift that I use quite a lot, so no real need for 222's. Can't wait to get this Dasher going. Luckus
