My first .30-06

I picked up a 110EL Series H in the LGS on the used rack teh other day that had a checkered stock and iron sights on it. Been looking for a lefty that I could use in my dense bit of woods but also stretch out one day on the open fields that I get to hunt on as well. Last year I pulled one at 240 yds with a righty .308 Browning A-bolt that my Father in law rolls his own for and is real accurate. I am going to use this with just open sights as long as I can stand it, but I was wondering which year this one was built. Serial A091667.

Until 1969, year of manufacture was encoded in a letter stamp enclosed, with two numbers, by an oval: J=1958, K=1959, L=1960, M=1961, etc. After that, Savage deemed company records adequate for dating rifles by serial number, which had begun at 1,000 in 1958. In December 1968, a new serial system began: A001001

Back to top, how much of a difference would a Boyds laminate stock make on a 110E like mine. I am having a hard time not getting one since they are right at $100.

I've got a Boyd's laminate on my 243 and love it. I glass bedded the action and floated the barrel. My best group to date with a Sierra 100 gr Spitzer pushed by 34.4 grains of IMR 4064 is .597" for three shots at 100 yards. Next best was a Remington 80 gr HP pushed by 40.5 gr of Win 760, it grouped into 1.23" at 100 yds for three shots.

How much did you have to let in once you received the stock? Or did it fit right off the bat?
