Hey guys. Will a model 12 VLP DBM with the 7 twist still be able to shoot 55 grain varmint bullets such as the vmax and ballistic tip without spinning them apart? I can't get my hands on a 9 twist right now. Thanks.

A 223 cannot push a 55gr bullet fast enough to spin it apart, that being said I would hold out for a 9 twist,

Thanks for your help, I will probably do that but apparently I'm looking at a 21 week wait which certainly has me thinking bout the 7 twist. It will be a dual purpose gun, used for long range shots and the coyote hunting. Being stuck having to use heavy bullets would not be ideal.

I would not wait 20 plus weeks, you can always rebarrel it,

If you're considering larger bullets than 69 grains, I would definitely consider the 7 twist. I have an 8 twist and just love it. It shoots 55 grainers very well and really hums with the 80 gr amax.

Ranger, what powder are you using with the 80 grainers.

I use Varget powder on all loads 55 grains and larger bullets. My 55 & 69 grain bullets like 26 gr of varget. 75 and 80 gr bullets range between 24 & 24.5. these loads all exceed box length for oal.

Beautiful rifle. Got one like it myself in 22-250, a southpaw version. One of my favorites.
