I have a model 11 in 223 that i want to convert over to 17 remington. Some people may think that i have lost my marbles, but i want to see if i can do it. My question is, has anyone done this, which barrel, and how did it shoot once you were done? Any and all information will be greatly appreciated. And the only reason the 11 will be taken apart is that my wife bought me a model 10 predator in 223 that is so accurate i will never shoot another. Thank's in advance

I took a Stevens 200 in .308 and wrenched on a .17 Fireball barrel. Actually, your idea of the .17 Rem is probably better because the cartridge is longer and it will be easier to get it to feed into the chamber. I bot a CZ .221 fireball magazine and worked a piece of walnut into the stock in order to get a detachable mag. The CZ mag spring is on the strong side and I can only load 3 rounds in order to get consistent feeding.

Here's the wood I cut to fit into the stock, and hold the CZ mag

Here's another view of the wood:

Here's how the mag fits:

And here is how the mag fits into the wood and the wood into the stock. This also shows the extended feed lips that I had to make in order to get the short fireball cartridge to make it to the savage barrel.

And here's the final gun:

Accuracy was very good at 100 yards when I had the barrel at 23". Then I had the "bright" idea to cut it down to 19" for better handling while hunting for fox at night. The accuracy went to about 1.5" at 100 yards and there was some velocity loss, but it's still an excellent fox killer.

I hope this helps.

Davemuzz,
Thank's for the insight, i am curious as to which barrel you used. I am looking at a pac-nor it seem's that they are the only one's who have a pre-fit for the savage in the 17 remington.

I believe I had Sin-Man chamber the barrel on mine. And I believe it's a Kriger barrel.
