For the first time I watched the video on the Savage web site about the headspacing. They show ONE guage, they call the "minimum headspace guage" and simply screw the barrel up to it and tighten the nut.

My question, is that what they are calling the "Go" guage, or has Savage created their own special guage for this purpose?

The big reason I ask is because about 50-60% of my barrel swaps, using go and no-go guages, seldom turn up the accuracy the rifle first delivered from the factory.

By the way, I read some older posts on setting headspace and got a lot more info, like using a "plasti" guage (no idea what it is but understand the concept), and measuring the case protrusion from the end of the barrel. Both were good info it seems.

And a minimum headspace gage is a go gage.

Actually, Savage calls it a "swing" gauge. It is just a go gauge. The part of the plant where the barrels are installed is called the "swing dept."

Thanks, I will have a new method to try next time I do a swap.
