I just ordered a .270 WSM Trophy Hunter lefty. I'll be turning it into a long range hunting rig over the next couple months, eventually converting it to a 7mm WSM. What I want is a high quality, reasonably priced, stock for such a rifle. It will be a pure hunting rifle, so I'm not looking for a tactical type stock though it will be used with a bipod regularly. I don't have a material preference between fiberglass and laminate. I definitely want to keep the factory DBM and would prefer to have the inletting done by the stock maker rather than having to send it off to SSS for inletting.

Who makes the stock I'm looking for? Right now I'm pretty much looking at getting an unfinished stock with the proper inlet from Stockade. Are there others I should be looking at?

Left-hand with DBM basically limits your choices to SSS and Stockade. Last I checked most of the other stock makers still weren't offering anything for the DBM models, and if by chance they did offer a stock or two for it none of them were lefties.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Time to get in the queue at Stockade I think.

McMillan offers several or will make anything you want with certain models hunting or tactical. Another option is to go with one of the newer aluminum stocks i.e McRee and XLR Industries.
I've had range time with a XLR/Savage 10FLCP-K and it was sweet.

McMillan runs well into $700+ for DBM. Requires new bottom metal and specialized mags for the WSM cartridges. I want a lightweight, or relatively so, stock for a hunting rifle that will be carried a lot. The chassis systems are right out for that, they're simply too heavy. I know, I have one for a different rifle.

I went with Stockade and ordered the stock about a month ago. Kevin makes custom bottom metal and sells custom mags similar to the AI mags for the WSM cartridges. Probably the cheapest option, done by a Savage specialist, made to order. Wait time should work out to less than it was for my chassis. Projected 18 weeks, so about 13 more to go.
